Tips For Linux - List of Linux Tutorials
My early attempts to learn anything that I can about Linux has consisted of going out to Google and typing "Linux Tutorial" and then running through the results that come up from that search. So far this has been very interesting, and I am learning a lot.
From the above list I went through "A Quick Introduction to Bash Programming" parts 1 and 2. Before I went through this tutorial I had a basic understanding of what Bash was and how to use it. This was really just a warm up / refresher for me.
Then I skipped down to "Pipes - Get the most out of your shell". This wasn't really all I was expecting. It didn't explain the full potential of pipes. It was basically just a quick example.
From there I went to "Scheduling tasks using Cron - Part I". This was very interesting. It showed how to use cron to automate tasks in Linux. let's say you need to do an important back up every night. After reading this tutorial, you will be able to do just that.
I finished up with the "How to find files in Linux using 'find'" tutorial. This was very interesting and something I desperately needed to learn how to do. By the end of this tutorial I was doing searches for files by type, size, and name. It's amazing how quickly you can gather a specific list of files that you are looking for. This is something that couldn't be done nearly as easy in Windows.
To finish up for the day, here is a list of things I am reading about Linux:
